President of the Board: Nap Hosang, MD, MPH, MBA is a founding member of the Center for Entrepreneurship in International Health and Development (CEIHD). He is a faculty member at the School of Public Health, UC Berkeley where he is affiliated with the Health Environment and Development program and the School's Global Health outreach activities, with special interest in the management of maternal and child health outcomes in poor, rural communities. Dr. Hosang grew up in Jamaica and before coming to Berkeley was on the medical faculty at the University of the West Indies, Jamaica. He is also a practicing obstetrician in northern California (Kaiser-Permanente). Treasurer of the Board: Dana Harmon Charron has over fifteen years of experience in non-profit program development, management, and has expertise in environmental advocacy, sustainable business practices, and social marketing. She holds an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley. Secretary of the Board: JoAnn Dunaway has an extensive background in management consulting and development in a variety of industries. Areas of expertise include strategic institutional partnerships, cross-cultural management, business development within emerging economies, and management of professionals. She holds an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley. Directors at Large - Professor Kirk Smith Professor Smith is the Maxwell Endowed Chair at the School of Public Health and Director of the Health, Environment, and Development Graduate Program. Previously, Professor Smith was founder and head of the Energy Program of the East-West Center in Honolulu. He is also a Visiting Senior Scientist at the Woods Hole Research Center and holds an Honorary Professorship at Sichuan University. He sits on a number of journal editorial boards and has published 7 books and more than 220 scientific articles. For this work, he was elected to the US National Academy of Sciences in 1997. - Sylvia Keita Sylvia has a B.A. in Political Science from Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia and a JD from Boalt Hall School of Law. She has a certificate in Mediation & Negotiation from Harvard School of Law. For the past 20 years, she has maintained a legal civil practice, engaging primarily in mediation, legal analysis, client representation and preparation, document and contract review, negotiations, drafting of agreements, with court appearances/litigation. She is fluent in French and English and understands Spanish and Russian. Born in France she also lived in the Republic of Guinea, the Soviet Union, and the United States. - Stephan Maxwell Stephan Maxwell, M.D. was born in Kingston, Jamaica and has a BSc and a medical degree from the University of the West Indies. He serves as director of the Pediatrix Medical Group, Neonatal intensive Care at Women and Children’s Hospital in Charleston, WV and also as clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at West Virginia University School of Medicine. - Jesse Patel Jesse is Director of Business Development at the Participatory Culture Foundation (PCF), a twelve person non-profit organization that builds open source software for downloading and watching online television. PCF's primary product is Miro, which has been downloaded over 2 million times and is growing quickly. Jesse graduated from Stanford University in 2003 with a B.S. in Product Design from the Mechanical Engineering department. He grew up in Western Massachusetts. - Philippa Baron Philippa holds joint Masters degrees in Business Administration and Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a resident of Oakland, CA and has a long history of community involvement in service to the needy in that community. After starting out as a Senior Health Care Analyst with Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, Ms. Barron soon found her calling when the opportunity came to be the Site Manager of one of La Clínica de la Raza’s largest full-service primary care clinics in East Oakland. Philippa now works for the City of Berkeley, Department Health & Human Services. She brings special expertise in project management and financial systems to track program performance.
